“In a world of AI-driven journalism, your human-driven journalism will be the standout,” concludes LSE Professor Charlie Beckett in an interview with our expert, Damian Radcliffe, who is also a Professor at the University of Oregon.

The interview highlights the challenges media outlets and companies will face with the rise of AI including the missing resources needed to cruise these technological changes as the AI revolution is one of the most significant changes that the media industry has ever witnessed. Nevertheless, this is a very new and emerging technology, so it makes sense to approach it with some caution, particularly when it comes to the potential impact on jobs.

For now, as Beckett and Radcliffe conclude, the most important thing to keep in mind is that Generative AI is not a silver bullet. It doesn’t solve all the problems, and even if it does, it’s not going to be the last technology to do so. What it does offer, though, is an opportunity to reimagine how we approach content creation, distribution, and consumption in a rapidly changing media landscape, one that is increasingly dominated by AI.
